SUCCESS STORIES

Wonkey Donkey and Zita

"I have a passion for taking the dogs no one wants, and already had a disabled girl from Egypt, along with 6 other rescue dogs from around the world. So when I saw the image of Wonky, walking on her front elbows, greeting the people feeding her, her tail wagging as she'd been dumped in the mountains with many others, I knew right away that she'd come and live with us.
From that day I offered her a home and donated regularly to keep her safe. You could seen her bones poking through her skin and it was just heart-breaking. Wonkey was looked after well by FDOT and her legs straightened.
After about 4 months she made the journey to the UK and has settled in well. She is very affectionate, everyone who meets her gets a big cuddle and she loves the attention. She is best mates with another of my rescues, she prefers to squirrel watch from her settee, to walks, but she does love the garden.
Rescue= best breed. It's so rewarding knowing they are safe and fed and loved forever, and that's why I do what I do with the support from my lovely husband."

Zena and Johanna

Dottie now Zena was rehomed in Turkey.  She was an English setter who had been dumped on the streets and was not coping at all.  She came to our shelter and was soon adopted by Johanna Sugrue.  Johanna says –"Dottie is lovely.  Not a nasty bone in her body.  She and my retriever have become very good friends and often sleep together.  My retriever was really depressed after my old setter had to be put to sleep.  Setters make brilliant family dogs and they love cuddles and people.  Thank you FDOT for all of your efforts.  I hope my story encourages more people to adopt!"

Catherine and Patch

I had been thinking about adopting a dog for a while
but was waiting until my youngest was over 9. I saw the lovely dogs in the shelter and decided to contact someone about adopting one. As long as the dog was good with children I didn’t mid which dog I had! To me they are all lovely and I completely trusted that FDOT would give me a dog which would fit in with my family. Transport and passport was arranged and Patch came over in August last
year. We all instantly fell in love, she is such a gentle good natured dog. She fits perfectly into our family, she goes out daily for a walk and will happily sleep on the
trampoline or the garden sofa. In the evening she comes alive and all she wants to do is play! She wants to say hello to every dog we see, she is so sociable. Over the next few weeks the ladies from FDOT asked how Patch was settling in. I was given advice about giving her plenty of time to settle in and just start with short walks but the same route to get her used to her surrounds. I am in regular contact on the Facebook group . FDOT are doing such a great job. I really hope they can continue their good work and help these lovely dogs who make such great pets.
